Tynehead Fell
Length: 3.85 miles (6.158 km)
Good in places, but otherwise very variable; from fragile grass covered, through stony washing-out areas, very soft poorly drained stretches, and stream crossings, to exposed rock steep gradients. A number of difficult gates.
Great care should be taken to avoid/minimise damage. Use from south to north, or not at all, in wet conditions. Serious ecological damage is beginning to occur on the southern, moor section.

Sensitivity: Weather
Route is through upland pasture and open woodland through historic lead-mining area and should be ridden with special care. Route is poorly drained and wet in places. The south end is especially wet and subject to rutting and scarring. Please use the existing large tractor ruts across the area above Tynehead Cottage. Spread out m/c tyre ruts have caused danger to users of the farm quad.
Sensitivity: Local Environment
There are steep, very narrow, and very boggy sections, and vertical high unprotected drop-offs and almost no places for turning around without encroaching onto sensitive adjacent land.
At the north end route runs along entrance road to an occupied dwelling house and close to the building, windows and garden – travel slowly and take care for residents.
